Zombies from Zimbio
<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2326/1797581548_c27dad23b3.jpg" align="right" />
Zimbio is a great place to promote your articles. It gives your some backlinks, engages into a community and allows to create some pages called wikizines aggregating the posts of the same or similar subjects. As it is free it sounds great, but I haven't checked one important thing.
The page of my profile has been indexed rather quick, but now it seems to be crawled very seldom, thus gives no links to some posts, which will go in and out the profile page, before Google visit the page again.
The zines created I guess two months ago don't show in the SERPs, so the time is wasted, and they are as dead as Zombies.
In an effort to put the spirit back to them I enclose some VooDoo links, that are going to work soon.

Free SEO site analysis at Cuwhois.com
I would like to reccomend another site with free SEO tools :
<span style="color: rgb(51, 102, 102);">www.cuwhois.com</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">[not a link here]</span>
The site is in Spanish, but easy to understand.
The information about the domain is presented in a nice form, with many extended info, besides standard checks it tries to find LANG tags, and If-Modified-Since server responses.
It gives you some information about the host server IP, country,ISP and hosting name, also other places using the same IP. The only problem I've met here is that the <span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 102);">tools preffer the www.domain.name</span> formand have some problems with interpreting results , when your main page is simple domain.name, and you use redirection from www to non www.
The main page is given a SEO points 0-10, however the score is not explained.
The site is also checked for presence of robots file and various formats of sitemaps.
Google,AlexaTechnorati ranks are checked as well, yet it seems to miss blogs ranked in Technorati.
The extended tools allow you to check duplicated index pages, and Domain Hacks - nice tool for domain name variations like typo's and similar names.
The whole site is great, and became one of my tools ( in spite of some notes above ).
<span style="font-style: italic;">[note for myself on one of the domains I've seen that server responds with iso 8859-1 set, while meta tag on page states UTF-8 coding. I am going to check if it has any SEO importance.]</span>

Do not worry, be happy ?
There are a lot of people who's blogs on blogspot.com are not crawled since beginning of this month.
This happened also with my friend's blog <a href="http://go2cracow.info">Krakow Travel Guide</a> .
We were thinking out the problem, and concluded that this time responsible is redirection from www. to plain domain form. Strange is that redirection from blogspot panel appeared to be 302 redirection thus causing duplicate issues .
Now the redirection has been removed and it is waiting time.
No other possibilities, but the machine error. Befana has a default blog template, no ads, and no suspicious links.
The site ranks the same as before, on Google Webmasters panel no troubles, yet no googlebots.
Hope the error will resolve itself soon.
We won't leave you alone, Befana.

Custom domain on Blogspot
I am not going to change this blog to my own domain yet, but here is the way how to do it.
When you have registered domain you must think if you use the primary address like domain.com, or use a subdomain like blog.domain.com.
First you create the unique blog with subdomain.blogspot.com address.
Then you have to create proper DNS settings.
The exact way may vary depends on the given place. The settings are in your registrar domain's panel, or DNS server - if it is separate from registrar ( like DynDs ), or in your main page host cpanel - if the host enables that option.
<span style="font-weight: bold;">a) use http://domain.name</span> ( or <span style="font-weight: bold;"> http://www.domain.name )</span>
<span style="font-weight: bold;">
</span>In <span style="font-style: italic;">DNS settings</span> you need to set two CNAME records of domain.name and www.domain.name to Google server (ghs.google.com).
In <span style="font-style: italic;">Blog Settings</span> click custom domain option and then enter the name of your domain.
Next you can check www to non www (or vice versa ) redirect box in blogger settings [beware that it is 302 redirection, but googlebot seems to not care about it].
If you have domain registered at Godaddy's you can set only one CNAME record, and set 301 redirection from www to non www form at Godaddy's panel settings.
In most of the cases if you set only one record for domain.name, you will have two phisical addresses pointing to two different places, one to blog another to somewhere else.
<span style="font-weight: bold;"></span><span style="font-weight: bold;">b) use http://subdomain.domain.name
</span>In this case pages from you basic domain form <span style="font-style: italic;">www.domain.name</span> are on different host, and your blogger hosts pages from subdomain <span style="font-style: italic;">blog.domain.name</span> only.
You need to find the IP address of main page host.
In DNS settings panel put
<span style="font-style: italic;">A record pointing domain.name to host IP
</span><span style="font-style: italic;">CNAME record pointing blog.domain.name to ghs.google.com
</span><span style="font-style: italic;">A record pointing *.domain.name to host IP</span>
Now www form and all subdomains are set to your host, but blog.domain.name is ponting to blogspot place.
The work has been tested on domains from <a href="http://go2cracow.info/"> Krakow Travel Guide</a>
and <a href="http://blog.kazimierz.name">Kazimierz Tourist guide</a>

White Hat way of introducing a new site
About a month ago I have set up the new site <a href="http://www.cracow.name/">guides in Krakow and Poland</a> .
Before the submission I'd checked the pages very carefully, as indexing the new sites takes huge amount of time, and any mistakes would last for weeks literally as G can visit the site only once a week. The other two even more seldom. The pages were checked by <span style="font-weight: bold;">w3c validator</span> for XHTML and CSS code.
Some pages I was still not certain about were given <span style="font-weight: bold;">noindex, nofollow metatags</span> and there were no empty links to non existing pages.
Another search has been conducted for <span style="font-weight: bold;">duplicated

Poland 2 go
And so for some time there will be no news from keym4k3r.
He is setting another place about <a href="http://www.cracow.name">guides and history of Cracow</a>
and has a few more in the closest future.
Btw. the name of the place is www.cracow.name.
There will be some SEO info soon. The site is indexed , and so far gets quite good ranks,
so we will see if it would experience 'sandbox' effect, as now the place is about two weeks old.

Icarus flight - the headers
Now it appears that G doesn't like when the subdomain name is the same as the blogs name.
The blogs name is in headers that is similar to situation with same names for subdomain ,page name,
and h1 header in some free hosts sites.
Two or three the same names in page's key position seemed to be considered as spam.

Link power (2)
G too much attention puts into the different aspects of links.
The links are different and could be used in malicious way, but
the solutions G takes are a bit curious.
When you link to a 'bad neighbour' you are penalized, but it seems
that G penalizes more sites in a kind of a chain.
So if the site is penalized , the one that links to it gets penalized
but another one that links to the last one is penalized as well.
It is hard to trace exact degree of penalizing, but then I think it is a bit too much.
You can control the site you are linking, but not the next one and so on.
I am a bit suspitious about being penalized when a bad site links to you,
that shouldn't happen but...
This post should clear the situation, and soon will have another part.

Reciprocal links between blogs
Recently I have created links between my two blogs , so site1.blogspot.com
linked to site2.blogspot.com and vice versa.
The sites didn't dissapear from G SEO but no new posts were indexed.
As soon as I withdraw one reciprocal link posts were indexed again and started to appear in SEO.
The blogs had no other of a few inlinks , so maybe when they get more links
that situation will not be considered as 'wrong' by G.
That will be tested soon , so far I will think about three way linking and webrings.
